Since the mid 1990s Peter Collyer has been writing about his travels to the places he visits for his paintings. The books are illustrated with the paintings and pages taken from his sketchbooks. The text is an account of his travels, along with occasional snippets of esoteric information and conversations with the people he meets along the way; occasionally amusing, always informative.

Peter's books are published by Adlard Coles Nautical, an imprint of Bloomsbury.

A new edition of Rain Later, Good was published in September 2013, 15 years on from the first edition and has already sold 10,000 copies. It has been completely redesigned with a new layout and cover and features some new images and an updated text, including two new introductory chapters. This new edition is in paperback, but is still in the same format as the hardback and features the sea area chapters from the earlier editions.
